If you are thinking of getting into green tea, matcha tea is a right place to start.  If you are already drinking the tea and want to treat yourself, you should look at making a matcha tea latte.  This is something that you can easily do at home if you have all of the ingredients and tools.

What You Need

To make a matcha tea latte, you will need a double size mug, your bamboo matcha whisk, and scoop as well as the matcha powder.  You also need to have some milk and a way to froth it.  You can use cow’s milk, but some people find that almond milk works just as well.  If you need to sweeten the drink, you can use either vanilla bean paste or some agave nectar. 

Making The Base

To make the base of your latte, you need to place 2 scoops of matcha powder into your mug.  If you do not have a scoop with you, this is the same as 1 teaspoon of powder.  It is important to note that some people have unique matcha bowls that they use to mix the tea.  This is not necessary, but you can use one if you want to.

Once the powder is in the mug or bowl, you will need to heat some water.  You will then have to pour the hot water into the mug with the matcha powder.  Using your matcha whisk, you need to mix the water and powder.

The hot water will dissolve the powder and you need to continue mixing until you have a smooth paste.  There is no right or wrong way to go about mixing the paste.  Some people use a circular motion to do this while others will use a vigorous up and down motion. 

Add The Sweetener

If you are going to be sweetening your drink, you can do this now.  Some people wait until after the drink is made to add a sweetener as you would with a coffee latte.  If you are going to be using vanilla bean paste in the latter, this will be the best time to add it.

You can also add honey or agave nectar at this point to sweeten the drink.  After adding the sweetener, you will need to whisk the paste again.  This will ensure that the sweetener is completely incorporated into the latte.

Get The Milk Ready

Once you have your paste, you need to get the milk for the latte ready.  If you have a steam frothing machine, you can use this to make your froth.  However, if you do not, you will need to heat the milk on the stove to start.  You can then use a handheld frothing device.

It is important that the milk is warm when you froth it.  If you use cold milk, your latte will be cold and this is something that you want to avoid.

Putting It All Together

Now that you have the matcha paste and the milk ready, you need to combine them.  Pour the warm milk into the paste until the desired amount.  You can then scoop some of the frothed milk onto the top of the drink.

You do not have to remix the drink at this point as the pouring will generally do this for you.  Once the frothed milk is in place, you can sit back and enjoy your latte.  It is important to note that you do not have to follow these steps in this order as you can make the milk before the matcha paste to ensure that your drink is the right temperature.
